Position Summary

The Paralegal – Intellectual Property (Part Time) aids InGeneron in indexing, maintaining, and expanding the company’s portfolio of patents and trademarks. This is a hands-on role, with the opportunity to work across the full range of the company’s intellectual property, from disclosure through maintenance nationally and internationally.    Reporting to the President and located in our Houston, TX office, the position may have approximately 10% travel, generally to the US, though to include the EU.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the administrative aspects of assigned patent and trademark portfolios
  • Review invention disclosures for proper handling and alignment with business units
  • Docketing and ensuring the filing of assigned patent and trademark applications and related responses to office actions
  • Preparing required documentation, and communicating with US counsel, non-US counsel, and technical representatives regarding the filing and prosecution of worldwide patents and trademarks
  • Performing and analyzing computer database patent and trademark searches
  • Ensuring compliance with all docketed deadline dates
  • Order freedom to operate searches and related tasks
  • Manage annuity and maintenance fee payments
  • Perform computer database searches and obtain file history documents
  • Performing additional duties as necessary

Qualifications and Skills

  • At least 2 years of experience in patent preparation and prosecution;
  • Some experience with trademark filings and prosecution;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • A quick learner;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with law firms and agencies professionally.

 

Required Experience

  • Project and/or change management: 3 years
  • Management-level clinical research operations: 5 years
  • CRO/Medical Device: 5 years
